The Mozambican international believes everyone should be held accountable for Chiefs’ results.
“In a team, we should all be held accountable because at the end of the day, the coach is there to give us whatever tools, but at the end of the day, we have the responsibility of delivering on the field,”
“So we can’t blame one side [the coach] and leave the other [players] because we’re a group and always talk about unity and being together. If the team loses, we all lose.
“If the team wins, we all win. There are certain things that are not in my power to talk about, but I think we’re all in this boat together. We should continue being together.”
The Mambas defender is convinced Nabi “is a great coach” who “needs more time to implement” his philosophy. “Now it’s so easy to point fingers and say it’s the coach or the players, but we all need time to put our ideas into place and implement our philosophy.
“I think he has done that quite well and probably just needs a bit more time to work on what he needs to work on with the gents. Hopefully, he can be the person that brings this club to where it belongs.”
The next two fixtures will be crucial as they play Pirates in the Betway Premiership before they meet again in the Nedbank Cup final. The final is set for Moses Mabhida Stadium on 10 May, while the Soweto Derby league fixture is pencilled in for Saturday at the FNB Stadium.
Chiefs, who last won a significant trophy in 2015, have a negative six-goal difference, having only scored 23 goals so far. The silver lining, however, is their qualification for the Nedbank Cup final, where they will face crosstown rivals Orlando Pirates.
They will also play in the CAF Confederation Cup next season, returning to continental inter-club football after a four-year absence.
With three games [minus Royal AM fixtures], they have collected 30 points off 25 games.
Kaizer Chiefs defender Edmilson Dove has weighed in on head coach Nasreddine Nabi’s turbulent tenure at the helm of the Soweto giants.
In Nabi’s first season in the PSL, Amakhosi struggled with consistency. They are currently ninth in the Betway Premiership standings and risk missing out on the top eight for the second season running.
