Cape Town City FC striker Khanyisa Mayo has completed his high-profile move to Algerian giants CR Belouizdad.

The two clubs reached an agreement, with the transfer documents signed earlier this week.

Mayo, a prolific scorer for Cape Town City, departed for Istanbul, Turkey, on Thursday evening to finalise personal terms with CR Belouizdad. In Istanbul, he was to meet the club’s officials to seal the deal.

The 24-year-old forward penned a deal that keeps him at the club for the next three years. He netted 11 goals in 29 appearances across all competitions last season and was the joint-top scorer in the 2022/23 Dstv Premiership with 12 goals. His career total stands at an impressive 31 goals in 101 matches.

The move comes after Mayo attracted significant interest from South African powerhouses Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns. However, Cape Town City FC’s valuation of the player proved to be a stumbling block for the local clubs.

CR Belouizdad, a prominent force in Algerian football, will be hoping that Khanyisa Mayo’s goal-scoring prowess can help them achieve further success in domestic and continental competitions.

Algerian giants CR Belouizdad announced Mayo’s arrival on Saturday morning, revealing that the SA striker put pen to paper on a three-year contract with the club.

“South African national team striker Mayo Khanyisa. A 24-year-old officially joins the ranks of Blouzdad with a contract lasting three years,” reads the brief club statement.

Mayo is the second South African player to secure a move to North Africa in recent days. The forward follows in the footsteps of Elias Mokwana, who was recently unveiled as a new signing for Tunisian giants Esperance.

The transfer of the Bafana international came on the heels of his impressive performance with PSL outfit Sekhukhune United, where he played his last match at the end of the 2023/24 season.
