Meanwhile, Johannes will face stiff competition competition in the wing-back position at Sundowns. The SA’s junior international will compete with Bafana Bafana stars Khuliso Mudau, Thapelo Morena, and Zuko Mdunyelwa for a place in the starting line-up.

Johannes is a utility player who can play as a right-back, centre-back, and central defensive midfielder. Interestingly, Johannes joins a long list of players who made a switch from SuperSport United to Sundowns in the past years.

The highly rated defender joins players such as Teboho Mokoena, Aubrey Modiba, Grant Kekana, Sipho Mbule, Ronwen Williams, Thapelo Maseko, and Jeremy Brockie in the list of players who moved from SuperSport to Sundowns.

In addition, the Spartans will have Nyiko Mobbie fill the void left by Johannes at right-back in the upcoming season. Mobbie put pen on paper for Matsatsantsa from Downs on a permanent deal.

SuperSport also concluded deals for Vincent Pule, Pogiso Sanoka, and Ricardo Goss who signed a two-year loan deal from Sundowns.

Mamelodi Sundowns have bolstered their defensive options with the signing of versatile defender Kegan Johannes from SuperSport United ahead of the new season.

The 23-year-old has put pen to paper on a ‘multi-year deal’, adding depth and competition to the Brazilians’ backline.

Johannes was one of the key players of SuperSport under the guidance of Gavin Hunt as they finished seventh on the log standings last season. The talented right-back featured in 21 appearances across all competitions for Matsatsantsa.

Johannes becomes the third player to join the reigning DStv Premiership champions in the current transfer window. The Brazilians signed Kobamelo Kodisang from Portuguese side Moreirense FC and the Brazilian centre-forward Arthur de Oliveira Sales.

Masandawana are undergoing drastic changes after surprisingly parting ways with head coach Rulani Mokwena a few weeks ago.

Mokwena left Sundowns with three years left before his contract expires, and he has already taken over the coaching role at Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca.

Manqoba Mngqithi will assume the head coach position at Sundowns, assisted by Romain Folz, while Steve Komphela will serve as a senior coach.
