Sundowns did not disclose the details of Sales’ contract, but the 22-year-old has committed his future to the club with a long-term deal.
“New season, new signings. Brazilian centre-forward Arthur de Oliveira Sales has joined the Champions,” said the club in a statement on Friday. “He joins Mamelodi Sundowns on a long-term deal.”
Meanwhile, in a video of his unveiling, Sales briefly said: “I am happy to be a Sandawana, Ka Bo Yellow.”
Sales also put pen to paper as Sundowns prepare to defend their Premiership title and compete on multiple fronts. He is expected to hit the ground running as Sundowns seek domestic dominance and a strong showing in the CAF Champions League and 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
Before playing in Belgium, the young attacker honed his skills in Portugal with FC Paços Ferreira. He also gained experience in his native Brazil, playing for teams like EC Bahia and Vasco da Gama.
Mamelodi Sundowns have bolstered their attacking options with the signing of Brazilian centre-forward Arthur de Oliveira Sales.
Sales signing marks Sundowns’ second acquisition of the transfer window, following the arrival of SA midfielder Kobamelo Kodisang from Moreirense FC in Portugal.
The 22-year-old Brazilian will join forces with fellow countryman Lucas Ribeiro, who penned a deal at Sundowns last season from Belgium. He arrives at Chloorkop with a reputation for clinical finishing, as he scored 10 goals and provided two assists in 24 league games last season in Belgium.
Arthur de Oliveira Sales’ signing is seen as a response to the Tshwane giants’ struggles to find a consistent hitman to complement Peter Shalulile.
In recent years, Sundowns have relied heavily on Shalulile’s firepower, but the Namibian international saw his form dip last season. He managed only nine goals in the DStv Premiership after bagging a record-breaking 23 goals and a third consecutive Golden Boot award in the 2021/22 season.
Sales’ arrival is intended to provide the much-needed support upfront and alleviate the goal-scoring burden on Shalulile.
