Khiba joined the Mpumalanga-based outfit in July 2023 from Marumo Gallants, who released him on a mutual agreement following their relegation from the DStv Premiership.

He signed a three-year deal with an option to extend by a further two years with the Sead Ramovic-coached side.

The former Bahlabane ba Ntwa man put in a good shift for Galaxy, having featured in 24 games across all competitions, scoring two goals and providing two assists.

This website reached out to the player’s agent, Nimrod Mbhalati, who confirmed that the Cape Club are one of the teams that are in negotiations with Rockets for the services of Khiba.

“There are few clubs interested in Thato Khiba. Stellenbosch FC is one of them. So, in respect of both clubs, I would rather not say much about this one,” Nimrod Mbhalati from Nida Sports told FARPost.

“Remember, it’s between club-to-club negotiations before I can intervene as his agent. That’s all I can say for now.”

Khiba helped his side to finish in the Top 8 [sixth place] in the just-ended campaign with 44 points from 30 outings.

With Khiba’s move to Stellies imminent, the player would add value to Steve Barker’s side, having also represented teams such as Chiefs’ reserve side, the now-defunct Uthongathi FC, and African All Stars.

Stellenbosch FC are close to signing a TS Galaxy midfielder, with negotiations currently underway between the two DStv Premiership teams ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

Steve Barker and his technical team are aiming to strengthen their midfield after a successful 2023/24 season as they seek to build on that success.

Stellies secured a third-place finish in the just-ended DStv Premiership to qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup and won their first-ever trophy – the 2024 Carling Knockout Cup.

Stellenbosch’s upcoming season promises to be a busy one. Not only will they compete in the DStv Premiership, but they’ll also be vying for glory in the MTN8, Nedbank Cup, and Carling Cup. With a busier schedule on the cards, Stellenbosch have identified the need to bolster their midfield, and Thato Khiba appears to be their chosen target.

Khiba, 27, was linked with a potential move to Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates for the new campaign. However, things seem to have taken another direction, with sources close to this publication revealing that Stellies are close to finalising a deal with the Rockets for the talented midfielder.
