“We will give them an off for a few days so that they can spend at least New Year and a couple of more days with their families,” said Johnson.

“And hopefully that will settle their minds. Get away from football, think about rugby, cricket or something else but not football. And we come back.

“I think this mini break will be the hardest that I’m going to work on now because you can’t end 2023 on a high like this and start 2024 in a different mode.

“If I’m [still] in the lead for this particular team then I can see it’s going to be the hardest work that I’ve ever put in. And I haven’t planned already what we’re going to do.

“It’s not Cavin Johnson that’s planning this whole thing. It’s Cavin Johnson and company which means the medical people, the nutritional people, the physical people, and the technical people. We’re going to do that together.

“So, it will be, for sure, a different Kaizer Chiefs that comes out and plays next year.”

Having completed the first round of the DStv Premiership season, here is Kaizer Chiefs’ plan for the upcoming AFCON break.

The continental showpiece is set to take place between 13 January and 11 February in Ivory Coast. Amakhosi played their last match of 2023 on Saturday where they drew 1-1 with Sekhukhune United.

Cavin Johnson’s men ended the year on a higher note with three wins and a draw in their previous four league games. They’re sixth on the log standings having accumulated 24 points after 16 games.

We understands Chiefs rejected an invitation to take part in the Mapinduzi Cup in Tanzania. They had been invited by the Zanzibar president during their visit to the state house in July.

Due to the dates of the tournament which roared to life this week, it would mean the Soweto giants would have to travel to Tanzania just after their match against Babina Noko.

The club then decided to grant players a two-week break and they will return to Naturena on the 15th of January. They will then play friendly matches with local and international clubs in preparation for the second round.
