With the Buccaneers looking to register their fourth successive win in the league, they’ll be without the services of one of their key players.

Patrick Maswanganyi set to miss Pirates clash against SuperSport United

Patrick Maswanganyi will serve the one-match suspension and miss a match against his former side. He accumulated his fourth yellow card of the season against Arrows.

Maswanganyi has been a key member of Pirates’ squad under the guidance of Jose Riveiro since signing from SuperSport during the off-season.

The Stars of Africa Academy graduate joined Pirates alongside Melusi Buthelezi, Siphelo Baloni, Katlego Otladisa, Lesedi Kapinga, Karim Kimvuidi, and Sphamandla Gumede.

Maswanganyi has made 20 appearances in all competitions and scored three goals while chipping in with three assists. In the absence of Maswanganyi, Pirates could use Kabelo Dlamini, Katlego Otladisa or Karim Kimvuidi in the attacking midfield position.

Another team that will miss a key player is Cape Town City when they face Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday, 24 December at Cape Town Stadium.

The former Richards Bay FC forward will sit out for one match after getting his fourth yellow card of the season against Stellenbosch FC. Mayo is currently the joint top goal scorer with Sundowns talisman Lucas Ribeiro with seven goals in the league.

Orlando Pirates are set to miss an in-form midfielder for the DStv Premiership clash against SuperSport United.

Pirates will face the Pretoria side at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday (15:00), 23 December 2023.

The Soweto giants are unbeaten in their last six matches in the league after claiming five wins and drawing once. Pirates sit third on the log with 25 points in 14 games played.

In their previous encounter, Pirates defeated Golden Arrows 2-1 at Mpumalanga Stadium on Sunday, 17 December.
