“In the past, ‘Bra K’ [Dr Kaizer Motaung] has done well in that aspect,” “He takes his time [before making coaching changes].

“Even the recent appointment of [ex-Bafana Bafana coach] Ntseki, that was based on the fact that Arthur wasn’t too sure if he has the nerve to carry on having gone through so much pressure.

“The team consulted, it’s not like he was removed because he didn’t perform. Chiefs were still willing, but they kind’a sensed that he might be in a position to continue because the pressure was just too extreme.

“That’s why Ntseki was appointed. So it’s not in the DNA of Chiefs to do that. But the way things happened, it boils down to how safe are the coaches. Some of these decisions are based on the safety of coaches.”

Following Ntseki’s departure, DStv Premiership giants Chiefs are back in the market searching for a new coach. Shongwe has pointed out the need for patience from the fan base.

“Right now, let Chiefs find their man. Even if Cavin does well for me, give him a chance. If you bring someone else it’ll break what Cavin was doing. Let him build up on that, maybe let’s just throw the season through the window and start planning for next season.”

Kaizer Chiefs stalwart William Shongwe has delved into the reasons behind the club’s decision to replace Arthur Zwane with Molefi Ntseki.

Shongwe, whose association with Chiefs dates back over three decades, offered a unique perspective on the coaching change, highlighting the factors that led to Zwane’s departure and the expectations surrounding Ntseki’s appointment.

Arthur Zwane was replaced as head coach by Molefi Ntseki in June, just a year after the former Chiefs winger was appointed on a three-year deal.

Shongwe acknowledged the challenges faced by Zwane during his tenure, emphasising the pressure-cooker environment of coaching a club of Chiefs’ stature.
