Just days after parting company with head coach Molefi Ntseki, Kaizer Chiefs have a decision to make on Luke Fleurs after his trial at the club.

Fleurs started his trial at Kaizer Chiefs in September 2023 after his contract with SuperSport United was terminated a week before the PSL transfer window closed.

He had slipped down the pecking order at Matsatsantsa under Gavin Hunt and decided to seek a new challenge. His trial was, therefore, seen as an opportunity for the club to assess his fitness and quality before making a decision on his future.

Fleurs is a highly-rated young defender who has been capped by South Africa at youth level. He is capable of playing with both feet.

The 23-year-old has been training with the Amakhosi for six weeks and impressed the technical team with his

A recommendation had been made to sign him before Ntseki was shown the exit door. Indications are that the club is mulling on going ahead and offering him a deal.

His handlers have reportedly been informed of the club’s intentions, and negotiations were scheduled to start this week. All things being equal, Fleurs could soon be a Chiefs player, potentially bringing to three the number of new centre-backs at the club.

Amakhosi signed two central defenders ahead of the 2023/24 season. Given Msimango joined the club from TS Galaxy, while Thatayaone Ditlhokwe made a switch from SuperSport United. Adding Fleurs to their squad will give interim coach Cavin Johnson another option in central defence.

He also has Njabulo Ngcobo and Zitha Kwinika in that position. Fleurs is also a relatively young player, which means that he has the potential to develop into a key player for Chiefs in the future.

If the signing is finalised, Fleurs will become Chiefs’ 10th 2023/24 season signing. The club also signed the likes of Edson Castillo, Mduduzi Mdantsane, Jasond Gonzales, Ranga Chivaviro, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Pule Mmodi, and Tebogo Potsane.
