Mhlongo added: “So it’s time for another chapter to see what God has planned for me. I am content with the decision I have taken.
“I don’t have any regrets of some sort to say if I had done this, things could have happened this way, everything happens the way it should happen. It’s time for another journey for myself to grow and move forward in life.”
“When I was at Upington City FC, the chairperson [Karabo Mogashoa] actually said to me: ‘You can retire and become an assistant coach’.
But at the time, I still had the fire because I had just left Polokwane City.
“But unfortunately, I left Upington City at the time and went to Leruma United. But at Leruma United, we had some problems, so I decided not to carry on. While I was training with the Hollywood Thunder, that’s when I decided to pursue coaching, and yeah, I am here now.”

Former Moroka Swallows and Black Leopards winger Joseph Mhlongo has officially retired from football to take up coaching. Mhlongo’s career began way back in 2013 playing for Roses United.
He has played for clubs such as Swallows, Leopards, Polokwane City FC, Upington City FC and Ubuntu Cape Town. His last team was at Leruma United in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
The 34-year-old has now decided to call it quits and focus on coaching on a full-time basis. He has been appointed as coach at Gauteng ABC Motsepe League side Tembisa Hollywood Thunder. Hollywood Thunder is a club owned by Orlando Pirates legend Jerry Sikhosana.
Mhlongo has made an impressive start to his young coaching career. In the 11 games that he has been in charge, Mhlongo has won seven, losing three with one draw.
