Nabi expressed the club’s full support for Castillo during this challenging time, acknowledging the severity of the injury. The Tunisian mentor also admitted feeling disappointed that he didn’t react strongly enough to the foul that caused the injury.
“I would like to take this opportunity to highlight and talk about our player, Edson Castillo. He was injured against SuperSport [United],” said Nabi.
“We want to express our deepest support for him, his family, his wife and his kids for the attack on him. At Kaizer Chiefs, we believe that we should have done enough to prevent those types of attacks.
“We want to make people aware that one of the rules of football is to protect the health of our players on the field, not only from Kaizer Chiefs but any player on the field.
“I feel like I didn’t do enough to raise my voice against that action, which even resulted in a foul against us that day. With that being said, we truly support him with all our hearts in these difficult times.”
The severe injury took place during the first-half with Castillo on the receiving end of a brutal tackle within the opponent’s penalty box.
The 30-year-old fractured his fibula in the 23rd minute and was replaced by captain Yusuf Maart.
After medical assessment, Chiefs gave an update about Castillo on Tuesday. The Venezuelan international will be on the sidelines for four to five months.
