“Scores, assists, recovers, steals lots of balls, and he is very strong on the ball despite his small frame. His first touch on bringing down an aerial ball was amazing. He really loved Hlompho Kekana’s long passes [his goal vs Platinum Stars away] What a player to watch in training more than games.

“I used to put Wayne Arendse on him to sharpen his skills and help him learn how to deal with big defenders. Wayne contributed a lot to his game. What a show I enjoyed in those weekly tactical sessions.

“What a pleasure to watch Percy [Tau], Keegan [Dolly], Themba Zwane and Khama in one team at training.

“These guys used to score a lot of goals together. Hence they won all major CAF club trophies in one season playing together in the same team,” added Mosimane.

Billiat’s former coach at Mamelodi Sundowns, Mosimane, is waxing lyrical about how he has turned out in Zimbabwe.

Mosimane took to X [formerly Twitter] to pay tribute to the 2016 PSL Player of the Season. The former Bafana Bafana coach revealed how he helped Billiat turn a corner in his career at Sundowns.

“Class is permanent. One of the best players I have ever coached. I phoned him for a full year, every week, convincing him that I will give him support and platform to showcase his talent and that he is the one to help us win the Champions League,” said Mosimane.

Billiat won his first accolade in Zimbabwe last month when he was voted the July Player of the Month. That was after scoring three goals, with one assist in four games played that month.

He has been a massive revelation as he is also competing for the Golden Boot with nine goals under his belt.

At the moment, he trails behind joint leading goal-scorers. Caps United’s William Manondo and Tymon Machope lead with ten goals apiece.

With 10 games remaining in the 2024 season, Billiat is a firm favourite to be among the season’s best eleven players.

Many questioned his decision to go back to Zimbabwe. But it appears he was following a biblical star to where he would be celebrated. Deservedly, the stylish attacker has struck the rights chords at   in Zimbabwe’s PSL. He has been their point of difference this season.

The 34-year-old star boldly returned to Zimbabwe after struggling to find a new club in the Betway Premiership following his exit from Chiefs.
