The experienced mentor says he’s ready to return to coaching in the SA top-flight following a much-needed break. He further revealed that he has been in contact with some PSL teams. However, at the moment, there has been nothing concrete.

“It’s been very good being on the break, I took a bit of a sabbatical,” Da Gama said “But I’m really looking to get back to football [coaching].

“I’ve been involved in football since January 2024. I was analysing for SABC, I did the analysing of AFCON which is something that I enjoyed a lot.

“But I’m definitely looking to get back to the game as soon as possible. I’ve enquired in one or two PSL teams, I cannot reveal the names, because there is nothing concrete yet. Soon, it will be made public once a deal has been reached.”

Da Gama’s last coaching job was back in May 2023 after Black Leopards were relegated from the Motsepe Foundation Championship following a poor run.

The well-travelled coach has coached other top PSL clubs, including the now-defunct Platinum Stars, Orlando Pirates, Free State Stars, Bloemfontein Celtic, Highlands Park FC, TS Galaxy, and Sekhukhune United.

In addition, Da Gama has been in the Bafana Bafana set-up, where he served as an assistant coach before becoming a caretaker coach. He has also been in charge of the SA Under-23 National Team.

While on a break, the 62-year-old has been working at SABC Sport as a football analyst during matches, where he will share his valuable knowledge of the beautiful game.

After taking a hiatus from the dugout, veteran coach Owen Da Gama has made his intentions clear: a return to the SA elite league is on the cards.

Da Gama’s absence from the PSL scene has left many wondering about his next move. But his recent comments in an interview with FARPost suggest that the coaching fire still burns brightly within him.
