Former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Gift Motupa has joined DStv Premeirship side Magesi FC,  has learnt.

Motupa has been a free agent since his surprise departure from Motsepe Foundation Championship side Baroka FC last season.

He joined Baroka a few weeks after he parted ways with Sundowns. But the 29-year-old did not feature much for Baroka and left in the middle of the 2023/24 PSL season.

Baroka FC chairman Khurishi Mphahlele had expressed his wish to have Motupa at the club permanently. However, the former Orlando Pirates and Bidvest Wits marksman had other ideas.

Motupa also spent time training with SuperSport United in January under his former coach, Gavin Hunt, hoping to earn a contract.

has now established that Motupa started training with Magesi earlier this week. The club, new to the Premiership, reportedly showed indications of signing the striker ahead of the new season. He will join other new signings, such as Kgaogelo Sekgota, Delano Abrahams from the University of Pretoria and Tshepo Kakora from La Masia.Meanwhile, the club has also roped in Papi Zothwane as an assistant coach. Zothwane spent the previous season at Leopards as an assistant coach to Solly Luvhengo.

As this publication has reported previously, former Kaizer Chiefs left-back Yagan Sasman was training with the club. The 28-year-old has reportedly stopped training with the club after failing to impress the technical team led by Clinton Larsen. Sasman parted ways with Swedish side AFC Eskilstuna earlier this year and has been unattached ever since.

Magesi are due to unveil their new squad in the coming weeks.

“Our technical team and management have been hard at work preparing for life in the Premiership. Announcements regarding our new acquisitions will be unveiled in due course,” the club said on their X page.
