After Ivory Coast won the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, the individual award winners were confirmed, with Bafana Bafana walking away with two awards.
South Africa’s Ronwen Williams was named Goalkeeper of the Tournament after keeping more clean sheets than any other showstopper with five, in addition to his six penalty saves in shootouts against Cape Verde and DR Congo.
Stanley Nwabali had kept four cleansheets ahead of the final, but conceded twice against the host nation.
Nigeria defender Williams Troost-Ekong was named Player of the Tournament after netting three goals in the competition, while Ivory Coast’s Simon Adingra was named Young Player of the Tournament.
Emilio Nsue won the Golden Boot after ending the tournament on five goals for Equatorial Guinea.
Emerse Faé, who was only appointed after Jean-Louis Gasset was sacked after the group stages, was named Coach of the Tournament after collecting four wins in the knockout stages with Ivory Coast.
Finally, Bafana Bafana also walked away with the Fair Play award and received their bronze medals in front of a packed Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara.
