The daily series will start airing at 19:30 from 4 March 2024, the broadcaster announced on Wednesday.
According to the SABC 1 Channel Head, Ofentse Thinane, viewers have pleaded with the broadcaster to change the time slot from its original airing time.
The drama series Skeem Saam is getting a new time slot on SABC 1. The daily series will start airing at 19:30 from 4 March 2024, the broadcaster announced on Wednesday.
“For years, the SABC 1 audience has made a plea, requesting to change the Skeem Saam time slot, stating that the show’s time slot is too early for some as the show broadcasts during the travelling time for a lot of the viewers,” said SABC 1 channel head Ofentse Thinane in a press release.
“With the new time slot comes intriguing storylines,” said the press release.
“A human trafficking drama unfolds in Turfloop, someone goes down for murder, a soccer star blows up his millions, and there is a new hot couple in town.”
Skeem Saam started airing in 2011, created by Winnie Serite. The series is set in Johannesburg and Turfloop, focusing on the lives of teenagers as they go through life’s ups and downs. The show’s original airing time is 18:30 on weekdays.
Skeem Saam’s move is “in line with SABC Video Entertainment’s strategy to amplify its prime time local drama offering to its viewers from 19:30 to 21:30”, said the press release.
Other shows that are part of this strategy include Generations: The Legacy, Uzalo and Muvhango.
The press release continued: “The SABC will host two hours of back-to-back drama on the SABC Video Entertainment platform, intentionally targeting a broader audience and ensuring the platform remains competitive.”
