AmaZulu FC, languishing in 10th place in the DStv Premiership and desperately seeking a reliable goalscorer, have reportedly set their sights on Mabasa. Usuthu’s struggles in front of goal are no secret, having netted a mere 11 goals in 15 matches so far this season.

Mabasa’s experience and proven track record in the league make him an appealing option, and a loan move could be a win-win situation for all parties involved.

For Pirates, moving Mabasa could generate some much-needed transfer revenue. Swallows, meanwhile, would be relieved of the burden of paying his salary for the remainder of his loan deal. And for AmaZulu, acquiring a proven goalscorer like Mabasa could be the boost they need to climb up the table.

However, the ultimate decision lies with Pirates, who hold Mabasa’s playing future in their hands. Whether they’re willing to loan him out again remains to be seen, and their decision could significantly impact all three clubs involved.

The next few weeks will be filled with speculation as Mabasa’s future hangs in the balance.

With the January transfer window approaching, a move could be on the cards for on-loan Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa.

The talented forward, who started off well at Moroka Swallows with six goals in 13 league appearances, has attracted interest elsewhere, potentially setting the stage for an early escape from his loan spell.

Mabasa’s football journey has been a whirlwind in recent seasons. After joining the Buccaneers in 2019 from Bloemfontein Celtic, he spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Sekhukhune United before landing at Swallows at the start of the current campaign.

His six goals for The Birds have brought his club football tally to 38 goals in 160 games. He has also provided six assists in the process.

At Swallows, Mabasa has quickly become a key player for Steve Komphela’s side, but whispers of a potential January exit are gaining traction.
